How To: Paper Straw Flowers

These cupcake liner and paper straw flowers are super easy and fun to make. They are really effective when made and used in mass.

Step 1: What you need

1. Paper straws - we used our Secret Garden Paper Straws

2. Cupcake liners - we used the cupcake liners from our Secret Garden Cake Box Set

3. Scissors

4. Sticky tape

5. Ribbon of your choosing

Step 2: Making the Flower

Take a cupcake liner and flatten it out slight.

Using your pair of scissors cut the cupcake liner just past the half way mark.

Next, using a small piece of sticky tape, stick the corner of the cut edge to the straw wrapping it slightly around the tip of the straw.

Once the corner is securely stuck to the straw, use your fingers hold the bottom part of the cupcake liner in place and slow start to pucker it around the straw.

Once you are satisfied with the shape of your flower, use sticky tape to secure the bottom edge of the cupcake liner. You can do this by simply wrapping it around the bottom of the cupcake liner making sure that it also sticks to the straw.

Step 3: Finishing your Flower

Once the cupcake liner is securely taped to the straw, you can then wrap ribbon around the based of the flower to hide the sticky tape.

Wrap the ribbon around the straw and based of the cupcake liner flower a few times until you can no longer see the sticky tape and then tie a tight knot. Make a bow and hey presto!

If you want to add a bit of sparkle, you can dip the edges of your flower 'petals' in a bit of liquid glue and then dust them with glitter!
